Festive Fun in the Algarve: Coming Soon

Here at Dona Filipa we're currently putting the finishing touches to our exciting Christmas & New Year programme.

Last year's events are going to take some beating, but we've lined up a host of activities, cocktail evenings, parties, balls and golfing events to celebrate Christmas and ring in the New Year.

So far we've planned in golf events with PGA tour pros, specialised wine evenings with one of the leading experts in the world... and a host of evenings featuring traditional Portuguese fare and entertainment.

Not to mention a wealth of golf days at the fantastic San Lorenzo course, complete with competitions, prize giving's and exciting refreshments.

There will also be the traditional decorating of the tree, the preparing and baking of treats and pastries; and a festive array of charitable events.

And of course...

Fabulously prepared festive gourmet dinners, cocktail soirees, ala carte dining; and a New Years ball that will be remembered for many years to come.

In Vogue Show set to dazzle at the Dona Filipa Hotel

5 Star Luxury Hotel, Dona Filipa, is presenting an evening of music, fashion and dance at 19.30 on Wednesday 13th July 2011.

This much anticipated cultural event is taking place on the terrace of Dona Filipa's Primavera Restaurant, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Vale de Lobo - Algarve.

Guests attending the In Vogue showcase will be welcomed to the event with a poolside cocktail reception... a Champagne buffet will be on offer to those that want it... and during the evening, six live shows from a variety of Portuguese artists, troupes and performers are set to entertain all the guests and attendees.

Algarve Barbeque Buffet Every Tuesday

With the beginnings of a brilliant summer in the air, Dona Filipa Hotel is launching weekly barbeque evenings by the pool... Come join us for the last word in al fresco dining.

Every Tuesday from 19.30 the immaculate Primavera Restaurant will play host to a feast of fresh fish and meat, delicately prepared on the grill by our expert chefs.

You will experience breathtaking terrace views, overlooking the Atlantic, cool summer breezes and the mouth watering smell of traditional Portuguese cuisine.

Begin the evening with a selection of freshly prepared, locally sourced salads and starter dishes, before taking your seats by the pool, ordering drinks from our extensive wine list... and letting the experience wash over you.

Then watch our chefs hard at work in the barbeque arena as they prepare prawns, salmon, sardines, swordfish, lamb cutlets, roast pork, beef skewers, traditional chorizo, chicken, bass... and a host of other delights - including our famous seafood kebab - right before your eyes.

And if you save enough room, there is still a selection of the finest desserts to get through, including a wide variety of locally sourced fruits and other treats.

We have the sights, the smells and - of course - the tastes of the Algarve, but don't worry, we haven't neglected the sounds...

Between the hours of 20.30 and 22.30, we have recruited the talents of one of the most renowned performers in the Algarve. At 8:30 PM on Saturday 26th March 2011, lights will switch off around the globe for Earth Hour and people will commit to actions that go beyond the hour. Dona Filipa following the global concern to save the planet, will be embracing this global initiative, for the first time... and we will be taking it a step further!

Earth Hour appeals to go beyond the hour this year, and that's what Dona Filipa Hotel commits itself to do:

all public and exterior lights will be turned off from 08:30 pm until 00:00 am (an additional 2:30 hours than the initiative)
guests will be provided with candles as an awareness of the initiative and pledging they spread this practice in future
all restaurants will be promoting menus that have not used any electrical current to prepare these meals
Kangaroo Club will be promoting special awareness activities on this day for the children that will be using our Kids Club facilitiy

Liverpool FC relaxes at Dona Filipa Hotel

After their fantastic vitory against Manchester United and after their match against Sporting Clube de Braga, at the beginning of March, Liverpool FC decided to take a few days of relaxation and chose Dona Filipa Hotel as their host.

The renowned football team arrived at Dona Filipa Hotel at around 12:30 am and was personally welcomed by the Hotels Sales Director, Mr. Carlos Medeiros.

Liverpool FC players and technical team were lodged at the Hotel for a three day short break with a complete leisure and relaxing activity schedule.

Their stay and experience was a success as Mr. Ray Haughan (Liverpool Team Administration Manager) confirmed "The stay has been a great success from all aspects and we achieved everything we set out to do. This was due to the level of service and friendliness of your staff - very professional!!!" and added "Hope we will return"!

With the sun and warmth returning to the Algarve, Joey (Kangaroo Clubs mascot) is back to visit Dona Filipa Hotel's Kids Club, in the Algarve, for yet another season! Our Kids Club - Kangaroo Club - will be opening its doors on the 12th March 2011. As we all know our Joey, just like our little guests is away at school during some periods throughout the year - but is finally returning home - Kangaroo Club - to start welcoming all the children that visit Dona Filipa Hotel, Vale do Lobo and even children that visit our areas of the Algarve.

The Atlantic Football Cup

Sporting Events Ltd. - managed by the former English Football professional, Brian Horne, and the former Swedish Football professional, Stefan Schwarz - bring four leading Scandinavian professional football clubs for a pre-season tournament in the Algarve.

The first Atlantic Football Cup (taking place from the 25 January to the 05 February), an event to be the first of many to come will be covered by a number of European TV channels and simulcast across the whole world.

The four leading first division Scandinavian football clubs will be travelling to the Algarve to prepare for this coming season and to play a number of matches in the Algarve Football Stadium (Estadio do Algarve):

27 Jan - Brondby IF vs. Odense BK
28 Jan - Elfsborg vs. Helsingborg IF
31 Jan - Helsingborg IF vs. Odense BK
31 Jan - BrondbyIF vs. Elfsborg
03 Feb - Elfsborg v Odense BK

Staying at the Dona Filipa Hotel (one of the main sponsors of this event), during The Atlantic Cup - 2011 is the Swedish 2010 National Cup winner: Helsingborgs IF (popularly known as the HIF or "The Reds"). Other than the 2010 title, Helsingborgs IF has earned six national championship titles and four national cups, and has five players currently part of the Swedish National Football Team.

Vale do Lobo Performs Road Works

Vale do Lobo Resort is currently undergoing a phased project to remodel and improve the Resort's infra-structures; and for the first few months of 2011, the road works will affect the main avenue that is used to access Dona Filipa Hotel (Avenida do Mar).

We therefore inform all guests, visiting the Hotel during the next coming months, that the normal route to the Hotel may be conditioned or slightly altered.

To minimize major abruptions, the road/infra structure works will be done in two phases:

Phase One (from 19 January to 11 February): will affect the road from the cross road Avenida do Mar and Rua da Aldeia Norte until the roundabout in front of the Hotel. However, traffic will not be completely cut during this phase; conditioned passage will be allowed.
Phase Two (from 11 February to 31 March): will affect the road from the Avenida do Mar and Rua da Aldeia Norte crossing to the Avenida do Mar and Travessa da Aldeia Norte crossing. During Phase Two, this stretch of road will be completely closed of and local traffic will have a detour (signs to Dona Filipa Hotel will be visible).

We would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our guests visiting the Resort within the next few months, and appeal to you understanding. The infra-structure works will not directly affect our guests stay at Dona Filipa Hotel, however, are necessary to guarantee the high standards of quality Vale do Lobo Resort ensures all visitors.
